Prof. John Keating<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. John G. Keating studied Experimental Physics<\/em> and Mathematics<\/em>, and completed his PhD in Atmospheric Physics<\/em> in 1990 (at Maynooth University). He completed his research EdD degree in Science Learning and Applied Linguistics<\/em> in 2014, and an MEd degree in 2006, both with the Open University (UK). He joined the Department of Computer Science at NUI Maynooth in 1990, and is currently an Associate Professor with the Department of Computer Science. He was a co-founder (with Prof. Margaret Kelleher) of Maynooth University\u2019s former arts and humanities Institute, An Foras Feasa<\/em>, and served as Associate Director, and later as Acting Director, while on secondment from the Computer Science department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently his research is focussed on the intersection of Educational Technology<\/em>, Digital Humanities<\/em>, Interaction Design<\/em> and User Experience<\/em>,\u00a0and Linguistic Analytical Methods<\/em>, particularly in the areas of Collaborative Learning<\/em>, and Science Learning<\/em>. He is particularly interested in Collaborative Annotation<\/em> in Online Learning Environments<\/em>, together with Systemic Functional Linguistic<\/em> motivated analyses\u00a0of Online Collaborative Discourse in Learning Environments<\/em>. Dr Keating\u00a0has been active in securing and managing funded research projects since 1990. He currently supervises funded research-based\u00a0doctoral and masters\u00a0candidates\u00a0in the areas of Digital Humanities, Digital Humanities Education,\u00a0and Educational Technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr Emma Murphy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Title: <\/strong>Towards Human Centred AI: A Case for Inclusive and Reflexive Research<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Emma Murphy <\/strong>is a lecturer in the School of Computer Science at TU Dublin. Emma leads research in the areas of responsible and human centred AI, co-design with people with intellectual disabilities and older adults, accessible interfaces for digital health, gender bias and healthcare and accessible and trustworthy XAI. Before joining TU Dublin, Emma was a Research Fellow in the Trinity Centre for Practice & Healthcare Innovation (TCPHI) at Trinity College Dublin and previously held postdoctoral research positions in the School of Computing at Dublin City University and the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT) at McGill University in Montreal. A key aspect of her research is the continuous involvement of key stakeholders and end users, particularly those who experience bias and exclusion from technical systems and research processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
